BYD offers $4,000 cash back incentive...

Chinese car maker BYD has offered a surprise $4,000 cash-back offer for its best selling car in Australia, the Shark 6 plug in electric ute.

The Shark 6 was launched in Australia in October 2024, BYD, and immediately laid down a challenge to traditional best-sellers like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

At the time, it came with a lower-than-expected price of $57,900 before on-roads. This helped the company secure thousands of orders in the first month after its launch.

Now, to the surprise of many, the company has a limited-time $4,000 cashback offer to help it move stock.

Interested buyers who place an order for a new in-stock Shark 6 Premium ute will receive $4,000 in cash back within 7 days of taking delivery of the vehicle, in the form of a bank transfer.

This offer comes after BYD sold over 10,400 Shark 6 utes since its initial deliveries began in January out of a Brisbane showroom.

According to BYD, the Shark 6 is an “electric-first” vehicle as it is equipped with BYD’s dual-mode off-road (DM-O) technology. This tech is part of BYD’s PHEV models that are geared towards off-roading.

With the DM-O tech underneath, this ute will be offering one of the longest electric-only ranges in its class thanks to a 29.58 kWh BYD blade battery that can deliver an EV-only range of up to 100 km.

Vehicle to load (V2L) is also available, making it possible to charge other equipment when on a work site, camping or just powering a laptop.

The Shark 6 has two electric motors, one on each front and rear axle. The front motor will deliver 170 kW and 310 Nm, while the rear motor can output up to 150 kW and 340 Nm.

The same blade battery pack in the ute can also be charged by the ute’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

A combined total driving range of up to 800 kilometres is available, offering drivers good fuel efficiency compared to traditional Diesel utes on the market.

With this drivetrain, the Shark 6 is equipped with 2.5 tonnes of brake towing capacity.

When it comes to its tough-looking exterior, the Shark 6 is available in 4 colours. This includes the Great White, Tidal Black, Deep Sea Blue and Outback Orange. The latter three are a $700 option over the Great White.

On the inside, it comes with all the BYD tech its vehicles are known for, including a large 15-inch rotating screen and plenty of physical control buttons as well.

The latest offer on the Shark 6 is available for customers ordering an in-stock vehicle until the end of July and who take delivery before 31 August 2025.

With cash being offered on what is arguably the most competitive ute in the market, it shows the ambition the company has to retain its sales lead in the PHEV ute market.
