The delivery breakdown figures for Nio (NYSE: NIO) in June reveal some interesting trends, suggesting that Chinese consumer preferences are quietly shifting.

The ET5 Touring wagon delivered 5,103 units in June, surpassing the ES6 SUV’s 4,415 units to become the most delivered Nio model last month, according to data shared by domestic automotive media outlet Yiche from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

This marks the first time since the ET5 Touring began deliveries in June 2023 that its monthly deliveries have surpassed those of the ES6, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The ET5 Touring saw a year-on-year decrease of 8.52 percent in June deliveries but a month-on-month increase of 74.58 percent, contributing 20.47 percent of Nio Inc’s deliveries of 24,925 units.

The ES6 saw a year-on-year decrease of 42.32 percent in June deliveries and a month-on-month decrease of 19.42 percent, contributing 17.71 percent of Nio Inc’s deliveries.

The ET5 Touring was initially launched on June 15, 2023, targeting the niche station wagon market in China. The ES6, on the other hand, targets the more consumer-preferred traditional SUV market and has been Nio’s best-selling model over the past few years.

Nio launched updated versions of the ES6 and EC6 coupe SUV on May 16, and updated versions of the ET5 Touring and ET5 sedan on May 25, with unchanged pricing but significant upgrades.

In addition to these four models, Nio brand’s lineup includes the ES8 SUV, ET9 sedan, ET7 sedan, EC7 coupe SUV, and ES7 SUV.

The EC6 delivered 1,932 units in June, a year-on-year decrease of 22.13 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 4.64 percent, contributing 7.75 percent to Nio Inc’s monthly deliveries.

The ET5 delivered 1,642 units in June, a year-on-year decrease of 44.88 percent but a month-on-month increase of 4.99 percent, contributing 6.59 percent to Nio Inc’s monthly deliveries.

The ES8 delivered 839 units in June, a year-on-year decrease of 4.88 percent, but an increase of 187.33 percent compared to May.

The third-generation ES8 will debut at Nio Day 2025 this fall, and the model has already been included in a regulatory filing directory by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Nio’s executive flagship sedan, the ET9, delivered 307 units in June, a decrease of 54.99 percent from the 682 units delivered in June. Since deliveries began in late March, the model has accumulated a total of 1,888 deliveries.

The ET7 delivered 271 units in June, a year-on-year decrease of 74.70 percent, but up 30.92 percent from May.

The EC7 delivered 84 units in June, a year-on-year decrease of 73.67 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 10.64 percent.

The ES7 had no deliveries in June.

Data released by Nio on July 1 showed that it delivered 24,925 vehicles in June, including 14,593 from the Nio main brand, 6,400 from the Onvo brand, and 3,932 from the Firefly brand.
